IMPACT: Afternoon & evening storms could bring damaging wind gusts (2025)

IT IS 647, AND HERE IS WHAT TO EXPECT ON THIS IMPACT DAY. WE HAVE A COUPLE OF MORNING SHOWERS OUT AND ABOUT. NOTHING STRONG OR SEVERE FOR THE MORNING HOURS. THE STORM CHANCE THOUGH, COMES BETWEEN 3 P.M. AND 10 P.M. THE HIGHEST THREAT WOULD BE EAST OF THE SUSQUEHANNA RIVER IN OUR SOUTHERNMOST COUNTIES AS WELL. SO BASICALLY SOUTH AND EAST OF HARRISBURG FOR THE HIGHEST THREAT LATER THIS EVENING. WE’RE WATCHING FOR DAMAGING WIND GUSTS, LARGE HAIL, AND POSSIBLY SOME HEAVY RAIN OUT OF THESE STORMS. SO HERE’S OUR SEVERE WEATHER RISK TODAY. NOTICE THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS TRIMMED THAT RISK OVER TO THE EAST NOW. SO AREAS GENERALLY WEST OF HARRISBURG YOU’RE NOT GOING TO SEE AS MUCH STORM ACTION AS AREAS TO THE SOUTH AND EAST. NOW HERE’S THE PREDICTOR HOUR BY HOUR THIS MORNING THERE’LL BE A COUPLE OF SHOWERS AROUND PREDICTORS. NOT DOING A GREAT JOB OF SHOWING THEM, BUT WE WILL CERTAINLY SEE SOME CLOUDS LATER THIS AFTERNOON AFTER 3 P.M. THAT’S WHEN THE WINDOW OPENS FOR THE STRONGER STORMS TO DEVELOP. AND REALLY YOU START TO SEE THEM BLOSSOM BY 4 OR 5 P.M. TOWARD THE EVENING COMMUTE. NOTICE WHERE THE STORMS ARE AGAIN, TO THE EAST OF HARRISBURG. TO THE SOUTH OF HARRISBURG. SO THAT’S GOING TO BE THE HOT SPOT FOR ANY STORM THAT COULD PRODUCE DAMAGING WIND GUSTS, AS WELL AS HEAVY RAIN AND SOME HAIL. NOTICE THAT THIS EVENING THE SEVERITY LESSENS. THE STORMS START TO WIND DOWN, AND THEN THEY HIT THE ROAD AFTER MIDNIGHT. SO WE SHOULD IN SPOTS THAT GET THE RAIN, GET A COUPLE OF TENTHS OF AN INCH TO UP TO AN INCH OF RAIN, WHERE YOU GET THE HEAVIER THUNDERSTORMS. THAT’S GOOD NEWS FOR OUR SOUTHEASTERN COUNTIES, WHERE WE ARE IN AN EXTREME DROUGHT. SO HERE’S A LOOK AT OUR SEVERE DROUGHT. HERE’S A LOOK AT OUR NEWS EIGHT STORM TEAM FORECAST FOR YOU TODAY. WE HAVE MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES TO START, A FEW SHOWERS POKING AROUND FOR THE MORNING, CLOUDS, MAYBE A FEW PEEKS OF SUN THIS AFTERNOON THAT WILL GET US TO 76. BUT THEN THIS EVENING THAT’S REALLY THE FOCUS OF THE STORMS ALONG AND EAST OF THE SUSQUEHANNA RIVER. AND IN OUR SOUTHERNMOST COUNTIES FOR TONIGHT, SHOWERS WIND DOWN, THE SKY CLEARS OUT. WILL BE IN THE 40S FOR OUR LOWS. AND THEN TOMORROW TO KICK OFF APRIL, WE HAVE A NICE DAY. MUCH COOLER, 52 TO 56. IT WILL BE BREEZY, BUT WE GET THAT SUNSHINE BACK TOMORROW. RIGHT NOW THERE IS A LITTLE BOUNDARY DRAPED ACROSS OUR NORTHERNMOST COUNTIES, BRINGING YOU FOLKS DOWN TO ABOUT 50 DEGREES WHILE OTHER SPOTS ARE IN THE 60S ALREADY. LOOK AT CHAMBERSBURG, 6566, IN YORK, A PAIR OF SIXES IN GETTYSBURG TO START YOUR DAY TODAY. EVERYBODY WARMS UP THANKS TO A SOUTHWESTERLY BREEZE. WE’LL SEE THAT ABOUT 10 TO 20MPH. AND TOMORROW THE WIND FLIPS AROUND OUT OF THE NORTHWEST 10 TO 20MPH, STARTING TO SETTLE DOWN BY EVENING WITH HIGH PRESSURE OVERHEAD. SO HERE’S OUR STORM TEAM LIVE RADAR NETWORK RIGHT NOW. JUST A COUPLE OF SHOWERS STARTING TO BLOSSOM. NOTHING SEVERE. NOTHING THAT WOULD SLOW YOU DOWN FOR YOUR MORNING DRIVE. I AM WATCHING THIS WEAKENING LINE OF SHOWERS WHICH WILL MOVE EAST THROUGH THE MORNING, SO I’LL KEEP THE MORNING A LITTLE DAMP IN SPOTS, BUT OVERALL WE SHOULD SEE SOME DRYING LATE MORNING INTO THE EARLY AFTERNOON. HERE’S A LOOK AT THE PREDICTOR THIS EVENING. REMEMBER HOTSPOT FOR THE STORMS SOUTH AND EAST. WE’RE GOING TO SEE THOSE STORMS ROLL THROUGH THIS EVENING WITH THE PASSAGE OF A COLD FRONT. AND THEN WE’RE BACK TO DRY WEATHER TOMORROW. TOMORROW THE BIG BLUE H COMES IN. BEAUTIFUL WEATHER TO START THE FIRST DAY OF APRIL, AND EVEN THE SECOND DAY OF APRIL. LOOKING GOOD. A MIX OF CLOUDS AND SUNSHINE WITH A WARM FRONT LIFTING NORTH LATE. AND THAT’S THE LEADING EDGE OF WARMER AIR FOR THE END OF THE WEEK. SO LOOK AT THURSDAY’S HIGH. WE JUMP TO 74 DEGREES, COULD SEE SOME SHOWERS ON THURSDAY. THERE WILL BE A BOUNDARY THAT LINGERS OVERHEAD INTO THE WEEKEND, FOCUSING RAIN ON TOP OF THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. SO THAT IS SOME MORE GOOD NEWS. BENEFICIAL RAIN ON THE WAY.

IMPACT: Afternoon & evening storms could bring damaging wind gusts in south-central Pennsylvania

Storms are possible between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. Monday

It's a mostly cloudy, mild start to the day with temperatures in the 50s and 60s. A few showers will pass through this morning, but most of the commute will be dry. We'll see peeks of sunshine today, which will warm temperatures to 76 degrees this afternoon. You'll also notice a 10-20 mph southwesterly breeze. IMPACT AFTERNOON & EVENING:The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted Lancaster, Lebanon, York, Adams, and parts of Dauphin and Cumberland Counties in a slight risk of severe weather today. These are the areas that have the highest chance storms that may produce damaging wind gusts, large hail, and an isolated weak tornado, along with heavy rain. The timing on the storms is 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Rain totals will range from a few tenths of an inch to up to 1", if you're under a heavy thunderstorm. Showers will end by midnight, as a cold front passes. The sky will clear overnight, and northwesterly winds will bring in colder temperatures around 40 degrees. Tuesday will feature mostly sunny skies, as high pressure moves overhead. It will be breezy early, then winds diminish by afternoon. Highs will be cooler, around 54 degrees. Look for partly sunny skies Wednesday ahead of a warm front. The front will lift north toward evening, leading to an isolated shower in northern counties. Otherwise, it will be breezy and seasonable, with highs in the mid-50s. You'll notice the warmth Thursday, as temperatures soar to 74 degrees. Showers are possible, as a cold front arrives and stalls over the area. The front will linger overhead Friday, keeping rain in the forecast. Friday's highs will be mild, in the mid-60s. The boundary will still be nearby Saturday into Sunday, so beneficial rain chances continue. Expect the first weekend of April to be wet at times, with temperatures in the upper 50s.
